The First Shot Always Locks You In

Someone always gets overconfident in the first five minutes.

Someone always hides behind a bunker the whole game.

Someone always charges heroically across the field and instantly regrets it.

Be the overconfident one leading the charge. The silent slippery assassin sneaking behind enemy lines. The sniper hidden in the bushes no one can seem to spot. You crawl through woodland cover, sprint between obstacles, whisper questionable tactics to your teammates and celebrate wildly when the plan somehow works.

It’s chaotic. Strategic. Slightly ridiculous.

And that’s exactly why it’s so much fun.

What the gift experience is

Battlezone Paintball is an outdoor woodland paintball experience just outside Edinburgh near South Queensferry. The site sits within forested game zones designed for scenario-style matches and team battles.

After arrival you’ll be equipped with everything you need to play: a semi-automatic paintball marker, protective mask, camouflage coveralls and paintballs.

Staff run a full safety briefing and explain the rules before the games begin. Once geared up, your group moves through different woodland maps where teams compete in objectives like defending bases, capturing territory or eliminating the opposing side.

Sessions usually run as half-day experiences with multiple rounds, so strategies evolve as the day goes on and players get more confident.

One moment you’re running through woodland for cover and the next you're laughing at your teammate’s terrible ambush plan.

Who it’s for

Best for:

  • Friends celebrating birthdays or big group days out

  • Anyone who has a bit of friendly beef to resolve with their friends

  • Anyone who secretly wants to live inside a video game map for an afternoon

Not ideal for:

  • People who dislike fast paced outdoor activities

  • Anyone with injuries that make running, crouching or quick movement difficult

Variations

Most visitors book the standard half-day paintball session which includes equipment and multiple scenario games across the woodland maps. Packages mainly vary by the number of paintballs included and whether you choose a half-day or full-day experience.

There is also a mini-paintball option designed for younger players, and the wider Battlezone site offers other outdoor activities such as airsoft, archery and quad biking if you want to extend the day into a full outdoor adventure.

Our Take & How to Enhance the Experience

The real magic isn’t just the game itself. It’s the characters that emerge once the first paintballs start flying.

Every group ends up with the same cast. The loud strategist who thinks they’re running a military operation. The silent sniper who somehow eliminates everyone and no one can ever spot. The heroic runner charging straight into chaos. And the person who spends half the match whispering “I’ve got a plan”.

Lean into the chaos. Find your character and try them all out. Be the runner, the sniper, the ambush master. Remember the golden words: you will be sore tomorrow anyway, so just go for it.

Pick ridiculous team names before the first round, agree on a small prize for the winner, and make sure someone captures the final victory photo once the battlefield dust settles.

And if you want to complete the experience properly, book a pub nearby. Paintball stories always get better with each retelling.
